Helping To Preserve The Past, Helping To Shape The Future
CHANTRY ISLAND CHAM-BETTES
We Are A Community Organization
Established in 1956
Fundraising Proceeds Donated Back to the Community
For over 55 years the Chantry Island Cham-bettes, a women’s service club, have been promoting the best interests of our community. In these years over 300 women have found membership in our organization which has enhanced their lives, brought lasting friendships and enjoyment while finding worthwhile community projects in which to get involved with.
Established in 1956 our membership has been involved in many projects for community betterment. Cham-bettes were responsible for naming some of the streets in Southampton, in 1971 the club numbered all homes and cottages in the town. We purchased the first water fountain for the Southampton tennis club, we are responsible for spearheading the fundraiser for the Southampton signs.
Monies have been raised though products such as Dances, Beach Carnivals, Bakes Sales, Monster Bingo’s, Fashion shows, Variety Nights, Plays, Craft fairs, and Raffles. Most recent has been our Christmas Tour of Homes. If there is an event that is a little whacky and off the wall you can be sure the Cham-bettes will be involved.
All money we raise goes back to the community and donations in the past have included our hospitals, schools, youth organizations, the Plex, the Bruce County Museum, libraries, the Medical Center, Bruce County Women’s House, Prance, the Chantry Seniors Center, the Accessible Park, the Dog park, the Skateboard park, and of course the Chantry Island Restoration Project to name a few!
HOW TO JOIN
We currently have 50 active members. The welcome mat is always out!! Having fun while doing good is synonymous for our group. We meet the first Tuesday of the month from September to June, with a two month break in the summer. The majority of meetings are usually dinner meetings at varying local establishments. At the start of each year, small groups of active members are assigned a month in which they plan a meeting for the membership. Monthly meeting are never dull and planners are often very creative when planning a meeting. It sometimes is themed to the month for example, February’s meeting can have a Valentines theme, while March’s meeting can have a St Patrick’s day theme. For membership you need to come out and attend at least three meetings, plus an executive before you can officially join the club. Annual fees are $10.00 a year and members need only get involved in the projects that appeal to them and that they have the time for. There is no minimum requirement for service hours. Initiation into the club happens twice a year in November and March. If you are interested in finding more about our group, fill out the request form below…someone will be in touch!!
